2010 Fall Plein Air Workshop
with Todd Reifers
September 15th-17th, 2010

Todd Reifers, a lifelong Indiana resident, was born in Lafayette, Indiana in 1948. His early exposure to art was through his Grandmother, Ann Reifers, an accomplished amateur painter who developed treasured friendships with the late Indiana Masters Curry Boehm, V.J. Cariani, Ada Shulz and Derk Smit.
Mr. Reifers, an associate member of the Oil Painters of America, won Best of Show at the 2004 Eastern Regional Exhibition. Other awards include Best of Show at the 2001 Hoosier Salon, Best First-time Exhibitor at the 1999 Hoosier Salon, as well as the Indiana Heritage Arts 2003 Patron’s Choice award and 2004 Overall Second Place and most recently, Best of Show at the 2008 Hoosier Salon. Todd is an artist member of the North Shore Arts Association (Gloucester, Massachusetts), the Small Painting Society of Indiana and the American Impressionist Society.
Todd paints predominantly on location or plein-aire. The East Coast of the United States provides Todd with many locales for artistic subject matter. A yearly pilgrimage inspires him to retrace the footsteps of the influential Masters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries that he so ardently admires. His mission, however, is not to copy their works but to draw upon their inspirational recordings to express his interpretation of light, mood and importance.
Todd’s art is geared toward the collector with a discriminating eye focused on high art. Mr. Reifers has excellent gallery representation at The Wickliff Gallery in Zionsville, Indiana where his work may be viewed on a regular basis. His work may also be viewed at www.toddreifers.com.
The classes
will begin at 9AM and end at around 4:30PM with a break for lunch (which will
be provided) at noon each day. We will assemble and headquarter at the Brown
County Art Gallery each day http://www.browncountyartgallery.org/.
Upon arrival
at the gallery the first day, there will be a short lecture along with a Q/A
period before we start out in the field to paint.
If you have
ever wanted to enjoy painting outdoors but have been intimidated and
frustrated with your first attempts...this is the class for you too.

The class will work outdoors daily. In the event of rain we will move to an indoors location to be announced.
There will be a lecture the first day at 9:00 in the morning.
This will be a time for the students to get acquainted.
The workshop will emphasize:
1. How to
select a good location to paint
2. How to mix
the color you see
3. What the
pitfalls are when painting outdoors
4. What
materials to use and why
5. How to
assess what you have done
6. When to edit your work and do it effectively
There is no
such thing as a dumb question in this class! We will cover it all and
have fun doing it.
This class is limited to 15 people.
Accepted students will receive an email featuring accommodations available in Nashville and painting supplies to bring etc.
There is NOT an art supply store nearby! Come prepared.
$475 (includes daily lunch from the back of the truck on location)

Cancellation policy: In the event that a registered participant cannot attend the workshop, and we are informed by September 1st, we will return the deposit. The balance of the registration payment is due September 8th , 2009. If after September 8th, a registrant finds it impossible to attend the workshop, we will attempt to replace that person with another interested party. If we cannot, the registrant will forfeit the entire workshop fee.
